What are guitar Tabs?
Tabs is a music writing method which allows you to easily read and write musical notes of a guitar melody or tune. This is different than the traditional musical notation which uses the seven notes( do, re me, fa sol, la si) or (A,B,C,D,E,F,G).
How do you read tabs?
Tabs are written using six lines, each line represents a string on the guitar, the note is written by writing a number which represents the fret on one of the strings. For example, the Do note can be played on the first fret of the second lower string. So we write one on the second lower line:

-2-------------------(B)=si string
---------------------(G)=Sol string
---------------------(D)=re string
---------------------(A)=La string
---------------------< this is the higher guitar string (E-mi)
If a note is on an open string, we write 0 on any of the lines to represent an open string note
another example: this is the open G chord:
-3------------------- < this is the lower guitar string (E=mi) [press on third fret]
-3-------------------(B)=si string [press on 3rd fret]
-0-------------------(G)=Sol string
-0-------------------(D)=re string
-2-------------------(A)=La string
-3-------------------< this is the higher guitar string (E-mi) [press on 2nd fret]
when you see an S, this means slide
3s5: this means the finger slides from third fret to fifth

How do you know the timing of the notes and their durations?
-Guitar tabs are not like traditional music notes, they do not show the exact timing nor the duration of the musical note, you need to listen t the song, melody or solo in order to get the timing. This is one of the limitations for guitar tabs
What software can I use to create tabs?
-Powertab and tableedit are very simple and easy to use software that can be installed free and used on your PC
