Hand finger symbols and reading the sequence of the strokes

Before you start going through the tutorials, you will need to know how to read the rhythms strumming diagrams and the fingers symbols. Throughout the tutorials, each finger of your right hand is referred to by a letter, as below.

Right Hand Fingers Labeling

Note: The finger labeling above might be different that the standard classical guitar symbols. We just thought the above assignment would be easier to understand. The rhythms strumming diagrams are read from left to right and they show you the movement of your strokes (upward or downward), as below.

Rhythms Diagram

The first note in the rhythm above is played on the bass string of the chord, with the thumb (symbol:T). The other upward and downward strokes are played on all the strings used in he chord you are playing. The x means this is a palm muting step between the strokes. We will talk about this in detail in the rhythm tutorials.

That's it! we are now ready for the rhythms tutorials!
